Hurling Juvenile Development Squad Challenge
Warwickshire vs London @ Holly Lane, Saturday 5th Match 2023

We welcomed our London counterparts to Holly Lane this morning for an early season challenge game. With commitment to developing hurling and home-grown hurling players a priority for both counties, both squads and management have been out training for a number of weeks already this year. On a cold morning in Erdington, it was the hosts who made the brighter start with some excellent scores on the board from Finn Bloomfield and Hughey Boxwell with a fine long-range score.
Commitment and dedication to the cause was evident throughout, as both teams battled impressively. Our lads ability to create space and take their scores was the difference in the remainder of the half with further scores from Hughey, PJ Spencer, Seamus Owens and Tommy Power.
In a more end-to-end second half, supporters were treated to more well taken scores at both ends with Erin go Bragh’s Ethan Mee among the stand-out performers in the second half. Ethan, Seamus Owens, Leo Sweeney and Seamus Gantley all contributed to the Warwickshire scores. There were a number of notable and impressive saves from both goalkeepers at both ends in what was a very entertaining half of hurling. Warwickshire came out deserved winners on this occasion in a game which was played in great spirit. There will be plenty more tussles between these two excellent squads this year. The future of hurling in both counties looks promising.Thank you to London for making the trip up and well done to our players and coaches for putting on a performance that highlighs the strength of juvenile hurling in our county.
